How do I fit my AirFit F20 mask?

Fitting your AirFit F20

1. Unclip the magnets.

2. With the mask held against your face, pull the headgear over your head. Ensure the top of the mask cushion is sitting comfortably at the top of your nasal bridge. The bottom of your headgear should settle comfortably at the top of your neck, with the top of the headgear sitting on the crown of your head.

3. Bring each of the magnets up to meet their corresponding clips on the frame.

4. Adjust the tabs on the upper headgear straps. Reattach the fastening tabs.

5. Adjust the tabs on the lower headgear straps. Reattach the fastening tabs.

6. With your device still switched off, connect your device tubing to your mask elbow.

7. Connect the elbow to your mask.

8. Switch on your device and position yourself as if you are going to begin therapy (e.g. lying down in bed).

9. Adjust your upper straps.

10. Adjust your lower straps.

11. Practice reseating your cushion: pull your mask away from your face, allow your cushion to reinflate, and then resettle the inflated cushion so the cushion membrane is sitting at the top of your nasal bridge.

Managing leak with your AirFit F20

1. Leak often occurs when your mask seal is compromised by movement, incorrect fitting or improper sizing.

2. To find the source of a leak, run your finger along the edge of your mask’s seal. Once located, adjust your headgear.

3. Resolve any leak in the upper part of your mask by adjusting your upper straps.

4. Resolve lower mask leak with your lower straps.

5. If leak persists, reseal by briefly pulling your mask away from your face, letting your cushion reinflate, and resettling your mask cushion so the cushion membrane is sitting at the top of your nasal bridge.

6. If leak continues, you may need a different size of mask. Try our sizing guide or speak to your healthcare provider about getting a different size of mask.

Maintaining your AirFit F20

  1. To maintain optimum therapy performance, your mask should be checked regularly for signs of damage and deterioration.
  2. When cleaning your mask, you should also check each component for damage. Your cushion, frame, tubing, elbow and headgear should all be regularly checked for cracks and tears.
  3. If any component of your mask is cracked or torn, it may be damaged and in need of replacement.
  4. It’s also important to regularly renew your mask cushion.

Cleaning your AirFit F20 (Daily)

1. Disassemble mask.

2. Rinse frame, elbow and cushion under running water. Clean each component with a soft brush.

3. Soak components in warm water with mild liquid detergent for up to ten minutes.

4. Shake components in water for at least one minute.

5. Brush moving parts of elbow and around vent holes.

6. Brush areas of frame where arms connect, and inside and outside the frame where the elbow connects.

7. Rinse components under running water.

8. Squeeze the arms of the frame to ensure excess water is removed then leave all components to air dry out of direct sunlight.

Cleaning your AirFit F20 (Weekly)

  • Disassemble mask. Magnets can remain attached to headgear during cleaning.
  • Hand wash headgear in warm water with mild liquid detergent.
  • Rinse headgear under running water. Inspect to ensure headgear is clean and detergent free. Wash and rinse again, if necessary.
  • Squeeze headgear to remove excess water.
  • Leave headgear to air dry out of direct sunlight.

Contraindication

Masks with magnetic components are contraindicated for use by patients where they, or anyone in close physical contact while using the mask, have the following:

  • Active medical implants that interact with magnets (i.e., pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD), neurostimulators, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunts, insulin/infusion pumps)
  • Metallic implants/objects containing ferromagnetic material (i.e., aneurysm clips/flow disruption devices, embolic coils, stents, valves, electrodes, implants to restore hearing or balance with implanted magnets, ocular implants, metallic splinters in the eye)
Warning

Keep the mask magnets at a safe distance of at least 6 inches (150 mm) away from implants or medical devices that may be adversely affected by magnetic interference. This warning applies to you or anyone in close physical contact with your mask. The magnets are in the frame and lower headgear clips, with a magnetic field strength of up to 400mT. When worn, they connect to secure the mask but may inadvertently detach while asleep. Implants/medical devices, including those listed within contraindications, may be adversely affected if they change function under external magnetic fields or contain ferromagnetic materials that attract/repel to magnetic fields (some metallic implants, e.g., contact lenses with metal, dental implants, metallic cranial plates, screws, burr hole covers, and bone substitute devices). Consult your physician and manufacturer of your implant / other medical device for information on the potential adverse effects of magnetic fields.
