Maintain and clean the AirMini system
Add optional humidification to the AirMini machine
The AirMini tube has unique proprietary connectors to connect it to the AirMini machine and compatible masks. These include the AirFit F30, N20 and F20 series of masks, as well as the AirFit P10 and AirFit N30 for AirMini. This proprietary air tubing enables the use of new technologies for CPAP therapy, including the ActiveAir vent, HumidX waterless humidification and the miniaturised AirMini machine, while maintaining ResMed’s high standards for effective therapy. The AirMini tube enables an easy transition from AirSense, or other CPAP systems, to AirMini systems via small and simple mask connectors that are compatible with ResMed’s latest masks.
Typically, masks feature a vent, comprised of one or more fixed outlets, to eliminate expiratory gases before the next inspiration. This minimises CO2 rebreathing and allows a critically sufficient vent flow at the minimum PAP pressure, with higher flows resulting at higher pressures. Vent flows higher than this critical flow provide no additional benefit. ActiveAir includes a pressure-activated silicone membrane valve that responds to the CPAP pressure. As pressure increases in the mask, ActiveAir reduces vent flow to a level that maintains CO2 washout from the system while reducing the overall flow output required at the higher pressures of the AirMini device.
Moving the location of the vent allowed us to place the HumidX between the patient and the mask vent. This is the only way the passive humidifier (HumidX) can properly function, as heat and moisture need to be captured from the patient’s exhaled breath before they are expelled from the vent.
Optional HumidX technology is integrated in the AirMini tubing so exhaled air can pass through the HumidX before it reaches the mask vent*. This configuration captures the heat and moisture from the air so it can be returned to the patient upon inhalation. The operation of the HumidX mimics the natural humidification processes of the nose to improve moisture levels during CPAP therapy. Capturing the patient’s exhaled moisture before it exits the mask vent means it can be used to increase usability and breathing comfort.
HumidX, HumidX Plus and HumidX F20 must be replaced 30 days after the packaging is opened. It must be replaced even if the HumidX was not used every day during the 30-day period. The design life of HumidX components is based on the time that has elapsed since the packaging was opened, not the number of days it has been used during therapy.
ResMed does not recommend using the HumidX if the packaging was opened more than 30 days ago. Although the HumidX has been tested beyond its design life, ResMed supports the safe use period of 30 days. If the HumidX is used more than 30 days after opening, deterioration in cleanliness, humidification performance and breathing comfort can occur and this can affect the safe and efficacious use of AirMini. The HumidX and other components of the AirMini system must be regularly maintained as per the user instructions.
AirMini has all the same therapy modes as the AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her, namely CPAP AutoSet (with the option of Response) and AutoSet For Her. Unlike the AirSense 10 AutoSet, every AirMini device has all three of these therapy modes included.
AirMini is designed to support simplicity and deliver a richer experience depending on your patient’s preference. To do this, we designed AirMini with one-button interaction for simplicity and an accompanying app that can be used to unlock a richer, more engaging therapy experience.
The AirMini system uses ActiveAir and HumidX technologies to enable the AirMini to be the world’s smallest** CPAP device while maintaining ResMed’s high standards for effective therapy. These innovative new technologies meant we had to design a new range of masks specifically for use with AirMini.
On the AirMini machine, press the Bluetooth® button when prompted by the AirMini app. When the light on the AirMini machine starts to flash blue, Bluetooth® is enabled and the machine is ready to connect.
Tap Connect on the smart device. When the AirMini machine is discovered, the name of the machine, ResMedXXXXXX, will appear in the accessory selection list. Select the machine name from the list to connect. You will need to perform an authentication procedure the first time you pair the AirMini machine with the smart device. When prompted by the AirMini app, begin the authentication process by tapping Scan code. You will be prompted by the AirMini app to allow the use of the smart device’s camera and to position the QR code on the back of the AirMini machine within the camera’s viewing frame. Alternatively, you can authenticate by entering the four-digit key located on the back of the machine. Tap Continue. The Bluetooth® connection icon is displayed in the top right corner of the AirMini app when the machine is successfully connected.
Notes: As long as the AirMini is plugged into a power source, it is turned on and in standby mode. If the AirMini is plugged into a power source, leaving Bluetooth® enabled on the smart device ensures that each time the smart device comes within the vicinity of the AirMini, connection will occur automatically. You should only pair a smart device with one machine at a time.
