Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) occurs when the muscles and soft tissues of the throat relax during sleep and block the upper airway. It’s often accompanied by loud snoring or snorting. OSA is the most common type of sleep apnoea.

Your hospital believes that you could benefit from sleep apnoea therapy. Please contact your sleep service provider directly if you wish to discuss your enrolment or treatment plan.

Ultimately your hospital decides the process of your therapy but from ResMed there are four key steps:

  1. You are first contacted to say that you have been referred for sleep apnoea therapy. After this you will be put into a waiting list. You do not need to do anything until we contact you again.
  2. Once we are ready to start your treatment, you will be asked some questions to determine what kind of mask works best for you.
  3. After that your CPAP device and mask will be delivered to your home.
  4. Once you have received your equipment you will be asked to download ResMed’s myAir app to support and track your therapy.

Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) therapy, commonly called Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy, works by delivering pressurised air through your airway, keeping it open and preventing sleep apnoea from occurring. All types of PAP therapy usually take the form of a machine or device. The machine is connected to a mask via a tube, and the mask is worn by the sleep apnoea patient to deliver the air generated by the machine.
